Protecting life and equipment within the pressure applications required within the refining process
The refining process can contain hundreds of applications requiring various pressure levels, temperatures, and materials for a successful production. OsecoElfab is dedicated to ensuring that these applications are performed safely each and every day. In the event of an unforeseen rise in pressure our discs rupture to relieve the pressure that could otherwise lead to a significant safety event with the facility.
OsecoElfab manufactures a full line of bursting discs for a broad range of applications from safety relief valve isolation to flare gas recovery units. Our products can be used for primary relief or as a secondary relief option, depending on the situation and design.
Our product range covers the standard industry burst pressures, sizes, and materials and we’re always ready to manufacture specialty discs outside these specifications. Contact us to discuss your custom requirements in more detail.
Rupture discs are generally used as secondary relief devices on dehydrators. The rupture disc's set pressure is higher than that of the safety relief valve. If the relief valve cannot handle a rapid rise in pressure in the dehydrator, the rupture disc activates to relieve the excess pressure. OsecoElfab also manufactures burst sensors that can be simply hooked in with the dehydrator's automation. Should a rupture disc activate, the burst sensor can shut down the dehydrator to minimize environmental damage.
Cokers or delayed cokers process residual oil stocks by heating it to its thermal cracking temperature in a furnace operation with multiple passes. Due to the number of pumps, separators, and condensers running at high temperatures, rupture discs are often employed as a means of overpressure protection.
Industrial distillation is the most common form of separation technology used in chemical and petrochemical plants, refineries, natural gas processing, and cryogenic air separation plants. Rupture discs are commonly used as overpressure protection devices.
A solid safety feature for oil and gas separators includes the installation of a rupture disc and holder. The disc is typically used in conjunction with a safety relief valve as a secondary device to relieve pressure from 1.1 – 1.21 times the Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) of the vessel.
Rupture discs are often used to isolate the inlet of safety relief valves to protect the valve internals from corrosive processes. ASME Section VIII recognizes the use of rupture discs under Paragraph UG-127.
