High-performance rupture discs for safer, cleaner and more efficient semiconductor manufacturing
Our high-performance metal rupture discs are designed for safety, with an additional focus on maintaining the integrity of high-purity chemicals and clean room conditions.
They offer leak-tight, contaminant-free overpressure protection for the raw materials, which need transporting, storing and preparing for use, and they are designed to operate efficiently within the tight pressure and flow specifications required to keep chip manufacturing systems safe and easy to maintain.
Semiconductor manufacturing uses a range of specialty chemicals for cleaning, etching, reducing impurities, in photolithography, and as feedstock.
Forming a leak-tight seal, our rupture discs offer an ideal method for protecting the equipment used to manufacture, transport, store and process these chemicals.
An optional Teflon boot lining protects the media from contamination, while also preventing corrosion and moisture from affecting the rupture disc assembly. This helps extend its useful life, and unless an overpressure event occurs, the disc can remain in service throughout the chip manufacturing project lifespan. We also offer electropolishing as an alternative to Teflon booting.
Our innovative Flo-Tel burst sensor sends immediate notification should a rupture disc activate. Flo-Tel is non-invasive to keep high-purity chemicals intact. It is not subject to damage due to over-torquing during installation. Flo-Tel offers increased reliability, with a lifetime that will outlast the entire chip manufacturing cycle.
Our rupture discs are designed to offer durable, precise, and reliable overpressure protection, whether installed on heat exchangers, pressure vessels, pumps, valve, and bulk chemical delivery systems (BCDS), used for water purification or in cryogenic service. We offer industry-leading low Kr values for increased efficiency on burst, combined with tight burst tolerances and high operating ratios, which can help raise yield rates.
The rugged, all-metal build is designed to operate efficiently within the carefully controlled environment of a semiconductor fab, including the clean room. Some of the common applications requiring pressure safety protection are shown below.
Heat transfer from one medium to another is widely used in chemical plants, petrochemical plants, petroleum refineries, gas processing, and power plants. They often require specialized overpressure protection.
Gas compressors traditionally use a relief valve as a primary relief device. OsecoElfab manufactures high-performance rupture discs that require almost no maintenance and can stand up to the high vibrations a compressor can cause. When a bursting disc is paired with a burst sensor, compressors can be shut down in the event of an overpressure, saving environmental damage.
Rupture discs, or burst discs, act as primary valve isolation or secondary pressure relief devices within shell and tube gas coolers and heat exchangers.
Liquid nitrogen storage typically employs rupture discs as secondary pressure relief, offering an alternative back-up safety device should the primary safety relief valve fail to operate successfully. Many other containers for transporting and storing industrial or cryogenic gases may be fitted with rupture discs to prevent catastrophic events.
Any process vessels subject to pressure levels above atmospheric pressure are candidates for rupture disc solutions. Rupture discs are commonly used as the primary relief device on pressure vessels and pressurized tanks. They need to withstand full vacuum as well as protect from overpressure conditions.
Rupture discs are often used to isolate the inlet of safety relief valves to protect the valve internals from corrosive processes. ASME Section VIII recognizes the use of rupture discs under Paragraph UG-127.
Small rupture disc assemblies are used to protect the pressurized bottles against overpressure during filling, transportation, or while in use.
